The items in Rudolf Sikora’s personal collection are important because of the value they acquired through their connection between the original artistic happenings and the meaning they were given in relation to normalisation-era policies. Their reference to the avant-garde were seen as oppositional, and this fact influenced Sikora’s further activities as well as the entire group of artists commenting on and creating works with similar themes, such as environmental issues. The collection was created gradually since 1970, particularly from the time of a so-called Open atelier in his appartement on Tehelná street in Bratislava (19 December 1970). Although the pieces in his personal collection are only a fraction of his artistic production, for the majority of this was recently acquired by the Slovak national gallery, they still have significant value.

The Multimedia Collection of Testimonies at the Study Centre for National Reconciliation in Ljubljana contains about 350 audio and video recordings with testimonies about World War II and its aftermath. The collection was established at the same time as the Study Centre in 2008, with the intention of researching the totalitarian systems that were present in Slovenian territory in the 20th century – fascism, national socialism and communism. In addition to testimonies about the suffering in World War II, the collection also contains testimonies from the post-war socialist period, which describe the rigidity of the system and the violation of human rights in Yugoslavia.

Control of the cultural life in Latvia was one of functions of the Latvian Communist Party (LCP) Central Committee (CC). The collection of documents furnishes rich information about the formulation and implementation of LCP CC cultural policy, about ‘deviations’ from the official path committed by the cultural opposition, and about attempts to use Latvian culture for the political ends of the Soviet regime in 1940-1991.
