Lustration Act, legal change, 2006
In December 2006, after public discussions about the means of dealing with the past and political responsibility of the post-communist elites, Polish Parliament voted the new lustration law. It came into action in March 2007, and gave IPN new tasks and responsibilities: it became the main institution to analyze and prepare lustration processes, as well as publish catalogues of documents containing personal data. New Law on Lustration completely changed the nature of IPN's activities and inscribed it into the current context of Polish politics. IPN became less an archive, more an executive institution.
